Your New Role

As a seasonal, full-time Interpretive Park Ranger Assistant, you will lead interpretive and education programs and assist park staff with the protection, maintenance, operation, and repair of park lands, natural and cultural resources, and facilities, equipment, and systems. You’ll focus on specific tasks such as janitorial work, landscape maintenance, interpretation, or visitor services, with some positions requiring basic skills in building trades. You may also guide volunteers or seasonal staff in completing park-related tasks as needed.

This position is scheduled for May through September; however, the duration may vary depending on the park's specific needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Six (6) months of experience (paid or unpaid) performing public contact or customer service duties (e.g. Teacher, Customer Service Representative, Salesperson, Receptionist, etc.) and/or maintenance experience (construction trades, landscaping, custodial, etc.);

OR

  • Six (6) months of college in any discipline (24 quarter hours/16 semester hours)

Special Requirements:

  • To be hired, a criminal record and driving record check must be completed that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment while also maintaining a valid driver’s license.

Desired Attributes:

  • Skill and experience in leading educational programs and developing and delivering basic resource interpretation presentations.

  • Experience providing exceptional customer service and answering routine questions about programs or services.

  • Experience providing rule information and asking for compliance.

  • Computer knowledge and ability to use computerized registration equipment and programs.

  • Experience with cash handling, making change and preparing simple cash reconciliation reports.

  • Experience using tools, material and equipment associated with landscape and building maintenance.

  • Experience assisting with the performance of basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, grounds keeping tasks.

  • Experience in promoting a culturally competent and diverse work environment.
