Description

Position: Onsite Temporary Camp Staff 

Location: Carnation, WA 

Duration:  June 19, 2025, to August 15, 2025   

 

GENERAL INTRODUCTION:  

Each position employed in CYO Camps helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.  

   

GENERAL SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE: To direct and supervise the counselor in training (CIT) and wrangler in training (WIT) program and campers. To implement a spiritually enriching program in the tradition of the Catholic faith.  

   

 

ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES:  

1.   Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well-being among the camp community and supports the camp staff in carrying out the CYO mission at camp.  

2.     Keeps the mission and ministry of CYO at the forefront of training and leadership of the CIT and WITs.  

3.     Lead CIT/WIT training week and coordinate with riding director for WIT training week.   

4.     Lead small group faith sharing discussions and prayers including bedtime prayer  

5.     Conduct evening group check ins with all of the CIT/WITs.   

6.      Help lead all camp activities including prayer time, wide games, campfire, and themes  

7.      Assign chores to CITs to maintain cabin cleanliness and help CITs to maintain health and hygiene.  

8.       Help the campers get up and ready to go for the day and help get them ready for bed and sleep at the end of the day.  

10.     Individually checks in with every CIT at least once daily to see how they are doing and to ensure that all of their needs are being met.  

11.      Carry out regular communication with the directing team regarding the status of program campers and staff.  

12.      Know and understand all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.  

13.      Maintain a clean and organized camp environment, including, but not limited to performing regular cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, sanitizing surfaces, and ensuring all facilities comply with health and safety standards. 

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:    

Primary:  

1.     Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop.  

2.    Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church.  

3.    Active member in the sacramental life of a parish/faith community in good standing with the Church.  

4.    A good example for youth in appearance, attitudes, as well as in moral, ethical and spiritual behavior.  

   

Education:  

1.    High school diploma, some college is preferred    

Experience:  

1.     Demonstrated experience working with parents or clients.  

2.     Experience in a variety of camping activities and programs.  

3.     Supervisory experience preferred.  

4.    · Demonstrated understanding of youth development and child behavior management.  

5.    · Previous experience working with diverse populations.  

   

Other Elements:  

1.    · Commitment to the mission and values of CYO.  

2.    · Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Comfortable with public speaking.  

3.    · At least one season of camp administrative experience preferred (i.e., Assistant Camp Director, Lodge Leader)  

4.    · Must be able to pass provided CPR/First Aid certification.  

5.    · Ability to work evenings and/or weekends and live on site in rustic facilities while programs are in session.  

6.    · Possession of a valid Washington state driver's license and a clean driving record preferred.  

7.    · Must be at least 18 years of age. 

 

Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
