The Director of Maintenance is responsible for coordinating the inspection, repair and upkeep of all rides, attractions, facilities, vehicles, HVAC, life support systems and property equipment. The Director of Maintenance plans, organizes and directs the Maintenance Department. This is done by managing projects, assigning tasks, maintaining the budget, establishing policies and procedures to ensure effective and safe operation and making personnel decisions supporting the company’s direction and vision.
The ideal candidate will be an organized and detail-oriented leader with experience managing amusement rides, water park attractions, or a multifaceted industrial maintenance department. The Director of Maintenance will provide hands-on leadership to the department and should possess strong verbal and written communication skills and technical knowledge of industrial machinery. The position requires broad knowledge and experience in project management, general trades, preventative maintenance programs and asset management.

Roles & Responsibilities:

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Lead, manage and direct the Maintenance department, including budgeting, project management, planning, talent development and overall departmental performance.
    • Ensure the safety of all amusement rides, water park attractions, facilities and equipment and compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and company codes, standards and procedures.
    • Establish preventive maintenance and inspection programs for all equipment to maximize uptime and minimize costs. Execute a winterization plan for all attractions, equipment and park facilities.
    • Create and maintain an active critical parts inventory to minimize attraction and equipment downtime.
    • Develop safety standards and an auditing program to ensure safe attraction operations, maintenance procedures and work practices. Ensure work practices are designed to minimize injuries.
    • Serve as the project manager for all capital improvement and other maintenance and construction-related projects. This includes working with the procurement team and preparing RFPs, evaluating bids, awarding contracts and coordinating projects from start to finish. The director must work with outside contractors and vendors to obtain parts and services.
    • Oversee managers and supervisors to ensure work is assigned appropriately, completed promptly, performed according to standards and properly documented. Assist crews with daily tasks as needed.
    • Oversee the implementation and execution of department training, inspection and documentation programs to achieve compliance with industry standards and best practices, including NH Statute Chapter 321-A, ASTM International standards, the TUV, OSHA requirements, the ADA and internal safety procedures.
    • Partner with the People & Organization team to ensure the department is well-staffed and adequately trained.
    • Act as the liaison between the park and applicable regulatory agencies such as the NH Division of Fire Safety, the Town of Bartlett and the NH Department of Health & Human Services.
    • Meet financial objectives by preparing annual budgets for each division, forecasting expenses throughout the year, recommending capital expenditures, analyzing variances and executing corrective action when appropriate. Minimize overtime by ensuring appropriate project management and scheduling.
    • Responsible for reviewing/approving requests for supplies/services according to procurement procedures.
    • Ensure assets are protected, and cleanliness & organization standards are met in the maintenance shop, storage locations, powerhouses and pump rooms.
    • Other duties as assigned by the General Manager or corporate team.

      Job Requirements:

      • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college, university, or equivalent relevant experience.
      • At least five (5) years of progressive maintenance and leadership experience, preferably in a theme or water park.
      • Familiar with various maintenance and mechanical areas, including (but not limited to) pneumatics, hydraulics, industrial controls, electrical, and plumbing disciplines.
      • General math skills including, but not limited to introductory algebra and the ability to read measurements.
      • Strong leadership, critical thinking, conflict resolution, crisis management, contract management, negotiation and organizational skills.
      • Ability to troubleshoot problems and present solutions for a variety of situations. Ability to interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
      • Ability to learn, adapt to new situations, train and develop team members, and direct reports.
      • Proficient computer skills and ability to use Microsoft 365.
      • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business communications, schematics, technical manuals, and federal, state and local regulations.
      • Ability to write general business correspondence and communicate with vendors and co-workers.
      • Must work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
      • Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for long periods and lift/carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
      • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and be available to travel occasionally.
      • Gain the appropriate knowledge, training and certifications in the attractions and aquatics fields:
        • AIMS or NAARSO Level 1 certification within one year
        • AIMS or NAARSO Level 2 certification within three years
        • CPO certification within one year
