This position falls under the classification Park Ranger 2. (Underfill option as Park Ranger 1).
UNDERFILL OPTION:
The goal of this recruitment is to fill the position at the Park Ranger 2 level; however, we encourage candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for Park Ranger 1, to apply. We will consider underfilling the position until the selected candidate meets the minimum qualifications for the Park Ranger 2 classification. Underfill training will not extend beyond three years.

Near the summit of the Blue Mountains, Emigrant Springs State Heritage Area provides visitors a refreshing place to camp in a mature forest between Pendleton and La Grande.
What you will do:
As a Park Ranger 2 you will independently plan and carry out personally, or by conducting others, complex park maintenance, operation, facility and resource conservation and/or interpretation tasks to protect, maintain, operate, repair and improve state park lands, natural and cultural resources, structures, facilities, equipment and systems within the Blue Mountain Management Unit.

Salary Range - Park Ranger 2: $4207 - $5842 monthly, Park Ranger 1 - Underfill Option: $4023 - $5325 monthly. Starting salary will be determined through a Pay Equity process.
The salary listed is at the non-PERS rate. Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) eligible employees will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay the 6% employee contribution to PERS. If you are not yet PERS eligible, the 6.95% pay increase and employee contribution will be effective upon PERS eligibility.

What we are looking for (Desired Attributes):
The following are skills that we have identified as key to success in this role at OPRD. These are the attributes we are looking for in our top candidate.
Experience leading complex park construction and park improvement projects.
Experience performing park maintenance tasks including: plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, and groundskeeping.
Ability to work independently while educating the public about, and requesting compliance with, park rules and policies.
Experience registering guests in a campground setting and reconciling cash and credit card payments using a computer utilizing specific overnight reservation software.
Professional experience working in heightened and stressful situations including rule enforcement, emergencies and responding to weather related events.
Experience leading parks specific work teams including but not limited to: seasonal staff, other permanent staff, volunteers, youth crews, or adults in custody.
Experience mentoring, coaching and training employees and volunteers in park maintenance and campground operations.
Experience developing and leading park related interpretive messages and related events.

Minimum Qualifications Park Ranger 2:
Four years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
OR
An Associate's degree in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management or Environmental Studies AND 2.5 years of visitor services experience (e.g., rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
OR
A Bachelor's degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies AND 1 year of visitor services experience (e.g., rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
Minimum Qualifications Park Ranger 1 - Underfill Option:
Two years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
OR
An Associate's degree in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management or Environmental Studies and 6 months of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
NOTE: A higher level degree may substitute for the Associate's degree. There is no substitute for the 6 months experience.
