Your New Role

As a permanent full-time Park Manager 3, you will provide direct, day-to-day supervision of permanent, seasonal and temporary employees and volunteer staff in the protection of state park lands, natural and cultural resources and in the maintenance, operation and repair of state park structures, facilities, equipment and utility systems.

Additional Duties Include:

  • Directly plan and supervise the maintenance, operation and interpretation, rehabilitation and construction activities for all park properties within the management unit

  • Supervise the implementation and operation of OPRD revenue programs

  • Support the OPRD's affirmative action plan and maintain a work environment free from harassment and discrimination; promptly investigate complaints.

  • Conduct boundary inspections for trespass violations; inspect properties for negative impacts to natural and cultural resources.

  • Maintain an appropriate inventory of maintenance and operations supplies and materials.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies or a related field; AND Three (3) years of experience as a Park Manager or equivalent natural resource manager.

OR

  • Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience as a Park Manager or equivalent natural resource manager.

Special Requirements:

  • To be hired, a criminal record and driving record check must be completed that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment while also maintaining a valid driver’s license.

  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR Certification and OPRD Enforcement Officer Status after appointment

  • Person in the position has to live on site.

Desired Attributes:

    • Experience with determining the methods, means and personnel by which park operations are conducted in large, complex or numerous park properties.

    • Experience evaluating the effectiveness of plans and activities, and in recommending changes for improvement.

    • Experience communicating effectively with the general public, media, agency and local government officials.

    • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with neighboring property owners and mid-level agency and local government representatives.

    • Experience working and managing within collective bargaining agreements.

    • Skill in managing complex operations including infrastructure; staffing; community relationships and project management within budgetary limits.

    • Experience in managing historic resources and communicating their significance to diverse audiences.

    • Skill in working in a fast-paced work environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities during the workday.
