This park near Albany is a quiet oasis for boating, paddling and hiking. It's made up of a north and south parcel, with parking lots at each. The Luckiamute River meanders through the 615-acre north tract, flowing into the Willamette River from the west and just a stone's throw from the Santiam River confluence from the east. Travelers paddling the Willamette Water Trail can camp at the boater-access-only site. Hikers can park at the North Trailhead and take the 3-mile North Unit Loop trail along a meadow and through a riparian hardwood forest of Oregon ash and bigleaf maple.

What you will do:

The primary purpose of this position is to perform, conduct and oversee a variety of tasks in order to protect, maintain, operate and repair state park lands, natural and cultural resources, structures, facilities, equipment and systems by using skills in building trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting and landscape maintenance, as well as specialized program skills (e.g.: resource interpretation, cultural and natural resource restoration, utility infrastructure operation, park rule enforcement, etc.) related to the maintenance and operations of OPRD programs, properties within the Luckiamute Management Unit.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Park Ranger 1: Two years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).

OR

  • An Associate's degree in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management or Environmental Studies and 6 months of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).


NOTE: A higher level degree may substitute for the Associate's degree. There is no substitute for the 6 months experience.

Special Requirements:

  • To be hired, you must have a criminal records and driving records check that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment.

  • You must have a valid driver’s license at the time of hire and throughout employment

  • Must be a current employee of OPRD

  • Proven Leadership in Team Coordination: Demonstrated experience in leading and directing diverse teams, including permanent, seasonal, and temporary employees, as well as volunteers, to successfully achieve park operation goals.

  • Technical Maintenance Proficiency: Extensive experience in maintaining landscape systems.

  • Custodial and Facility Maintenance Experience: Experience performing custodial tasks and facility upkeep, ensuring all park facilities are consistently maintained to high standards of cleanliness and safety, including conducting minor repairs.

  • Visitor Services and Customer Interaction: Experienced in managing visitor services, including processing reservations, handling transactions, and providing information, with a focus on delivering exceptional customer care.

  • Safety and Rule Enforcement Background: Experience in patrolling park areas, enforcing rules and regulations, and responding effectively to emergencies, with a history of maintaining visitor and resource safety.

  • Resource Interpretation and Educational Programming: Proven experience in developing and delivering interpretative presentations on natural, cultural, or historic features, and in assisting with educational programs and special events within a park setting.

  • Proven experience working in remote satellite parks in riverine environments
