LONG-TERM SUBSTITUTE MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE TEACHER

Pace Academy seeks a Long-Term Substitute Middle School Science Teacher. This substitute position will teach Seventh-Grade Life Science. With 273 students in the sixth through eighth grades, the Pace Academy Middle School is a vibrant learning environment that provides an innovative academic program within a nurturing community. Our expert teachers create meaningful learning opportunities for students through lessons that emphasize academic excellence, critical thinking, empathy and integrity.
The ideal candidate has been successful in a collaborative setting, exhibits good judgment and possesses excellent communication skills. Enthusiasm for teaching, especially young students, is a critical quality. Candidates should possess a wealth of patience, humor, energy and creativity and should work well within a team of teachers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares course objectives and outlines for courses of study in conjunction with other Middle School faculty, following curriculum guidelines and state and school requirements
Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops
Effectively incorporates principles of diversity, equity and inclusion in teaching and classroom culture
Attends training, professional development and education in antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion
Communicates effectively with parents in a timely manner
Leads parent-teacher conferences
Attends parent gatherings and assists with school-sponsored trips
Participates in the co-curricular activities of the school community (such as coaching, sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, etc.)
Other duties may be assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree and/or Science degree strongly preferred.
2-5 years of teaching experience required. Middle School experience preferred
Strong sense of humor, flexibility and desire to work with Middle School students is required
Must be available for after-school student help
Attendance at evening and weekend functions is occasionally required
Belief in the critical importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in the life of a school so as to foster a sense of belonging
Proficient use of technology is necessary
Must be able to work on campus, for in-person learning
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Classroom environment that may regularly require the employee to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop or kneel
Ability to sit at a computer desk for an extended period
Ability to operate a computer, smart board and/or projector
Ability to lift, carry, push or pull 30-50 lbs with assistance
