Non-Exempt Pay Rate: Up to $285.00 per day, equating to approximately $75,000 annually.
     **Applicants must be residents of Alaska to be eligible for this position

Summary of Job Functions:

The Live-In Life Skills Coach provides quality active supports, care, and supervision necessary to help individuals with developmental disabilities realize their full potential while living in a residential home of The Arc of Anchorage. The Life Skills Coach ensures the health, safety, and well-being of each individual in the home. Additionally, the Life Skills Coach ensures that the homes are well maintained and cared for.

 

The worksite for this job will be located in a residential home of The Arc. The Live-In Life Skills Coach works five consecutive days of 24-hour shifts.

  

Essential Job Functions:

  • Teaches daily living and personal hygiene skills to residents to include: cooking, cleaning, laundry, hygiene, shopping, communication, and problem-solving to their highest level of independence
  • Provides transportation to the individual residents to various   outings, appointments, or work
  • Maintains the home and keeps the home in good and clean condition. Informs supervisor of the maintenance needs of the home in a timely manner.
  • Attends all required meetings, training, house meetings, and other events
  • Participates as a team member in the development and implementation of the individual's service plan 
  • Must work closely with the food shopping program coordinator and complete the food order by the requested time frame
  • Coordinates daily activities (and transportation) with Day Habilitation, Supported Employment Services, Anchor Rides, and other agency/service providers
  • Communicates effectively (and timely) with parents and guardians of the individuals in the home
  • Ensures that the environment is safe and free of health hazards. Facilitates safety drills. Maintains a safe environment for the individual.
  • Accurately completes note charting and/or other documentation of the individual’s programs and progress by established timeline
  • Assists with training, mentoring, and job shadowing of new employees

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Learns and follows all policies, procedures, and guidelines of the program and the agency
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Applies common sense and effective problem-solving skills as appropriate
  • Demonstrates at all times a positive professional working relationship with individuals, colleagues, supervisors, agency staff, parents, guardians, and community representatives

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Six months in the field of developmental disabilities required 

Clearances:

  • Background checks as defined by licensing agencies 
  • Valid driver’s license, and proof of auto insurance 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move around
  • May be required to use physical support with an individual to prevent injury to themselves or others
  • Ability to see within normal parameters
  • Ability to hear within normal range

Equipment Used:

  • May require a reliable vehicle
  • Computer ( Beginner Level)
