Job Description:

JOB DUTIES: Lead the Fisheries Management Section of the Fisheries Division. Administer and coordinate all activities to meet fisheries management goals statewide. Direct the activities of Section staff, including five management districts and multiple statewide programs (Aquatic Habitat, Motorboat Access, Aquatic Invasive Species, and Community/Private Waters). Coordinate with the Fish Production Section (hatcheries) to meet fish stocking requests. Work with the Fisheries Research Section to answer fisheries management questions. Prepare staff recommendations and justification for sport fishing and other associated fisheries regulations and orders. Serve as the Agency contact for fish kill investigations. Review and assess waterbody management plans prepared by field staff. Develop and review employee performance objectives and goals. Maintain records regarding fisheries management operations. Manage federal aid grants focused on fisheries monitoring and management. Work cooperatively with Fisheries Division staff and administration in the development, planning and tracking of the Division’s budget. Work directly with other agency divisions to fulfill the NGPC mission. Coordinate with numerous local, state, federal, non-profit, and other organizations on aquatic and natural resource management activities. Other duties as assigned.


Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in an area related to division functions plus five years related experience. OR A Masters degree in an area related to division functions plus three years experience.

Other: Drivers license is required


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Extensive knowledge of fish management principles, procedures and analyses; fish species’ life history and habitat needs; research, statistics, budgeting processes and record keeping systems; and conservation statutes and regulations as they relate to fisheries. Ability to communicate effectively; set and articulate clear goals and objectives; evaluate fish management objectives and develop and implement recommendations for improvement; supervise the work of others; maintain effective working relationships with federal, state and local officials, other agency personnel and the public.
