Ecological Studies in Urban Landscapes Internship 2025
Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Garden’s mission is to inspire and educate all with the beauty and importance of plants; to advance sustainability and promote human and environmental well-being through action and research; and to celebrate its historic glasshouse.
Phipps is offering a ___ week Ecological Studies in Urban Landscapes Internship to individuals who have preferably completed their undergraduate studies, and/or who are enrolled in a graduate-level program, interested in expanding their academic experience. This is a full-time, 40 hours/week internship running from ___ through the end of September, working closely with Phipps’ Plant Ecologist. Ideally, this intern will have taken courses in plant science/botany, and have experience with plant dichotomy, preferably specific to northeastern region’s flora and fauna. This intern should also have experience working in excel, pertaining to data entry and analyzation.
It is important to note that this internship will entail working outdoors with exposure to the natural elements, collecting soil and plant samples. Collection of samples and conduction of surveys will take place in nearby urban and suburban parks, such as South Park, North Park, Boyce Park, Schenley Park and Frick Park.
This intern will also be responsible for outreach to public/professional groups, inquiring about their need of sustainable land care management and/or biodiversity conservation.
It is preferred that the intern have their own vehicle/reliable mode of transportation, though not required, as carpooling with Phipps’ Plant Ecologist is available as long as the intern has a reliable mode of transportation to Phipps Conservatory.
