General Summary

The CCMA (Certified Medical Assistant) is responsible for providing direct patient care to urology patients in the clinic setting under the supervision of a Physician, Physician Assistant and/or Nurse Practitioner. The CCMA is also expected to ethically perform assigned job duties in a manner that is consistent with the Core Values of Urology Centers of Alabama (UCA) listed below:

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Incumbents must have one of the following to be eligible for consideration:
    1. CCMA professionals must be first and foremost qualified and compassionate.
    2. Experienced in providing diverse basic care to those who need it while remaining patient and calm.
    3. Must be a Certified Medical Assistant from an approved program.
    4. Or have an extensive work record, with approved refences, as a Medical Assistant.
    5. Phlebotomy and procedural experience.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Incumbents must have one of the following to be eligible for consideration:
    1. CCMA professionals must be first and foremost qualified and compassionate.
    2. Experienced in providing diverse basic care to those who need it while remaining patient and calm.
    3. Must be a Certified Medical Assistant from an approved program.
    4. Or have an extensive work record, with approved refences, as a Medical Assistant.
    5. Phlebotomy and procedural experience.
  2. Must maintain license/credential as outlined in Minimum Qualification #1 without lapse.
  3. Must have a Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification. Certification must be renewed and up to date.
  4. Must display an understanding of sound patient care, including maintaining competency in UCA required areas. See clinical competency for further details.
  5. After orientation to UCA is completed, incumbent must have the ability to display the following:
    • Must be able to perform catheterization using aseptic technique.
    • Must show the ability to obtain blood, urine, or other specimens for lab analysis, using venipuncture, midstream, catheter, or other approved method.
    • Must show the ability to perform sterilization techniques on instruments, patient rooms, or equipment as needed.
    • Must be able to type documents, email, forms, and other communications.
    • Must show proficiency in use of a variety of office equipment including a PC, Windows, MSOffice, EMR system, multi-line telephone, copier, facsimile machine, etc.
  6. Must be able to travel between locations using personal transportation. UCA does pay for mileage and time as according to the UCA Travel Policy.
  7. Must show the ability to have excellent interpersonal skills and communication to interact with all walks of life, internal and external to UCA, from all educational or cultural backgrounds.
  8. Must show the ability to work independently or within a team in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Must show the ability to maintain confidentiality, including strict adherence to HIPAA and UCA Guidelines.

Licensure, Certification, Registration Requirements

The incumbent must hold license/certification as one of the following:

  1. Certified Clinical Medical Assistant from an approved program.

Supervisory Requirements

            This position will not directly supervise any other staff members.
