Do you want to spend a paid summer in Alaska? Join us at Camp K for fun at one of Alaska's most beautiful sleep away camps in Cooper Landing. Just two hours South of Anchorage, our camp is located on the beautiful Kenai Peninsula. No outdoor experience is required, just a love for camp! If you want to build an inclusive and loving community at our camp, this is a perfect job for you! Housing and meals are included for the entire season.

 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW


  • Program: Camp K is an ACA Accredited Summer Residential Youth Co-ed Camp.
  • Location: Camp K is located in Copper Landing, AK on Kenai Lake.
  • Dates: All Staff training begins mid-May. Camp opens to youth in early June and runs through July.
  • Time: Camp K offers 5 day sessions throughout the summer.
  • Staff Shifts: Camp K staff reside on camp premises during all camp sessions. There is personal time between sessions to enjoy the beautiful Alaska Summer. 
  • Activities: While at Camp K youth are provided hiking, boating activities, outdoor games, creative arts, target sports, outdoor living skills and team building. 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Kitchen Manager provides oversight for a youth-focused Food Service program aimed at the provision of nutritious and appealing meals in a safe and clean environment while keeping with the best practices for risk management, quality program delivery, and maintaining the facility. They will also oversee menu planning, food preparation, kitchen inventory, food/supply ordering, health/sanitation requirements and special dietary needs of the camp personnel. You'll have the opportunity to monitor and evaluate camp procedures related to Camp K Food Service and make recommendations for changes as needed. As the Kitchen Manager, you'll have the opportunity to build and maintain positive relations through excellent customer service and effective communication with campers, families, visitors, program partners leadership, camp staff, etc. This position will also give you an opportunity to gain more experience with coaching, training, staff evaluations, etc. through skill performance verifications/observations, assessing job performance, addressing/correcting staff behavior, monitor staff moral, etc. Through this position, you'll get the chance to live on the premises of Camp K in the Chugach National Forest with everyday opportunities to be off the grid, experience wildlife, and take in the epic beauty right outside your cabin door! 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Prior experience as a cook
  • Previous experience in staff supervision and management, minimum of one (1) year.
  • Current Food Protection Manager Certification from the State of Alaska preferred, or from a nationally recognized provider that is accepted by the State of Alaska.
  • Current Adult/Pediatric CPR, AED & First Aid Certification from a nationally recognized provider.
  • Twenty-one (21) years of age required to maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting entities.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience as a kitchen manager.
  • Prior experience working with youth, preferably in a camp setting.
  • Valid Driver’s License and eligibility to drive agency vehicles with ability to drive and maneuver 16 passenger vans and trailer in tow, is preferred.
