The Waterpark Safety & Staff Engagement Manager offers a quality level of service that exceeds the customers’ expectations by establishing and maintaining a positive, productive relationship within the organization and with the guests. This role achieves operational objectives by managing staff and maintain a safe, secure, and healthy environment by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, other duties may be assigned)

  • Assists the water park operations team and supervisors in water park operation.
  • Acts in place of the Director of Aquatics during absences/days off.
  • Clearly directs and assigns responsibility and authority for the operation of the lead guards, lifeguards, and water park attendants.
  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, orientating, and training of employees.
  • Act as lead trainer for the Ellis and Associates Lifeguard Training Classes
  • Coaches, counsels, and disciplines employees by communicating job expectations, enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Plans and administers a training and development program (in-service training) which will ensure well-trained employees at all levels
  • Works to maintain an efficient, cooperative atmosphere among staff members • Maintains a working knowledge of general and departmental safety procedures.
  • Maintains a general knowledge of entire resort operation.
  • Is on the floor of the water park providing MBWA-Management by Walking Around
  • Attends weekly staff meetings
  • Is responsible for overseeing and managing general park operations
  • Works with other managers to coordinate lifeguard classes/trainings.
  • Should have general knowledge of Arcade
  • Should have general knowledge of Customer Service desk
  • Stays up to date with any changes to the Ellis & Associates training curriculum
  • Checks and maintains park equipment and park signage
  • Attends Safety Meetings in accordance with what the resort offers
  • Coordinates staff parties, events, and incentive programs
  • Works with corresponding manager on maintenance/scheduling/ordering.
  • Reports to WP Director bi-weekly with updates
  • Other duties as assigned, which could be directly related, or un-related to original position.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise a total of 70-80 employees in the Waterpark Department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university, or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word Processing software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Ellis Certified Instructor / Certified Pool Operator preferred.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
• Must have at least 3-5 years of lifeguard experience.
* Must have prior experience supervising lifeguards.
• Exhibits ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger, collect accurate information and resolve conflicts.
• Ability to motivate diverse groups to achieve extraordinary goals and overcome challenges by inspiring team members to work together and achieve beyond expectations.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully manage people to achieve performance goals which include resolving conflict, coaching, and developing others, promoting teamwork and performance management.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Must be able to swim 50 yards in 4 feet of water and retrieve a 10lb brick at bottom of water.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

RESORT CONDITIONS
This is a Winter Resort Area. It requires that work venues are varied, and in many cases include steep stairways, multilevel buildings and outdoor work areas, subject to very cold, sometimes wet or very sunny work sites. Some facilities are located at the base or bottom area and some are semi-remote and can only be reached by traveling via chair lift(s), skis or snowboards. Walking surfaces are frequently frozen, sloped and slippery. Proper footwear is a must, indoors and out. Work days and hours, as well as the number of hours required will vary, with an emphasis on weekends and holidays.
