Job Description:

Dates of Employment: March 24th to October 31st, 2025

JOB DUTIES: Assist Fisheries Division staff with field collection of fish community and habitat data on statewide streams in Nebraska. Provide support with ongoing monitoring surveys within cool-water streams post-habitat evaluations, sportfish assessments, small-bodied at-risk fish distributions, among other research focused projects. Fish sampling techniques will often take place in wadeable streams and may include both backpack and tote-barge electrofishing, seines, and minnow traps. The positions will be responsible for maintaining and calibrating equipment, operating power tools/equipment, and involve compiling and tabulating field data. Interactions with the public are common and successful candidates should feel comfortable communicating with aquatic recreation participants. Perform related work as assigned.


Requirements/ Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: 1 year experience OR 1 year coursework/training in fisheries management, natural resources, biology, and/or agriculture.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Applicants should possess general knowledge of and ability to operate, care for and repair fisheries equipment and motor vehicles; ability to follow instructions and maintain records; general knowledge of aquatic ecology, aquatic invasive species, and/or fisheries management techniques. Applicant should be able to problem solve and have good speaking and communication skills.

*NOTE: Requires statewide travel with the potential for extensive (i.e., up to 3 to 4 nights in a single week) overnight lodging. Must work in inclement weather for long periods of time and can hike long distances along stream banks and trails carrying up to 50 pounds.
