Job Description:

Job Duties: Assist the Park Horticulturist in the planning and development of park land projects. Assist in the formulation of forestry improvement projects such as fuel reduction thinning projects to help prevent or lesson the effects of wildfire. Provide technical horticulture and forestry advice to Park Superintendents. Specifically, assist with hazard tree inspections and management of hazard trees in developed areas of the park and recreation projects. Candidate will serve as a lead arborist to preform tree trimming and/or removal of hazardous trees throughout our park system. Candidate will supervise one assistant, temporary employee during tree trimming and removal operations. Candidate will operate and maintain a 55 foot aerial lift unit to assist with hazard tree management. Perform related work as required to include landscape installation requiring manual labor.

Requirements/Qualifications

Minimum Qualification: Bachelor's Degree in Horticulture and/or Forestry plus one year of professional experience.

Other: Valid driver's license is required. Applicant must possess or acquire within three months of hire a Nebraska Commercial Driver's license with air brake endorsement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of native trees and other landscape materials, horticulture practices and forestry practices. Skill in operating horticulture equipment such as chain saws and ability to learn how to operate aerial lift equipment.
