The Snow Reporter role is a winter seasonal position that assists with both Marketing and Communication projects as well as supports the Events team. A primary focus of this position is to develop and execute daily snow report messaging and updates. While some flexibility can be arranged, a typical 40-hour week would be 6 mornings/week Snow Reporting and assisting with Events as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, other duties may be assigned)

  • Develop and execute daily snow report and messaging and updates across all relevant channels(including but not limited to, the Jay Peak website and snow phone, Snow Report eblast, 3rd party sites, etc.)
  • Work with Ski Patrol and Mountain Operations and Lift Operations to ensure proper operations and conditions are communicated to Jay Peak guests daily.
  • Develop and share the daily Jay Peak conditions report with all relevant on property outlets.
  • Assist with the creation, execution, and marketing of on-mountain, social, employee and music events.
  • Interact with guests(on and off mountain) to create awareness around resort events and activities.
  • Assist with on-campus merchandising and collateral distribution.
  • Assist with on-snow and off-snow events as assigned.
  • Be familiar with snow conditions for accurate reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned, which could be directly related or unrelated to original position.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to CE effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

COMPUTER SKILLS
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and be willing and able to learn new software and programs as needed.

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
Must have strong communication and customer service skills. While not a requirement, must be prepared to assist with on-snow events. Preference given to those who have at least an intermediate ability to ski/ride based on Jay Peak trail ratings.

The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste, smell, climb, or balance. There are no special vision requirements for this job.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is reguarly exposed to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally exposed to wet or humid (non-weather) conditions and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

RESORT CONDITIONS
This is a Winter Resort Area. It requires that work venues are varied, and in many cases include steep stairways, multilevel buildings and outdoor work areas, subject to very cold, sometimes wet or very sunny work sites. Some facilities are located at the base or bottom area and some are semi-remote and can only be reached by traveling via chair lift(s), skis or snowboards. Walking surfaces are frequently frozen, sloped and slippery. Proper footwear is a must, indoors and out. Work days and hours, as well as the number of hours required will vary, with an emphasis on weekends and holidays
