GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 

The Wyoming Boys’ School (WBS) is a secure facility providing adjudicated delinquent males ages 12-21 years with opportunities to make changes in their lives. Staff members provide supportive services focusing on psychological/emotional stability, educational and physical development, and mental health therapies. Programs are specifically designed for youth to learn socially responsible values and life skills, restructure their critical thinking and prepare for a successful transition back to their families and communities.  This position
maintains and troubleshoots facility-wide HVAC, automobiles and equipment, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and grounds maintenance issues at and around the Wyoming Boys' School.

Worland is located within the Big Horn Basin along the Big Horn River in beautiful Northwestern Wyoming. Worland has easy access to the Big Horn Mountains to the East, the Absaroka Mountains to the west, and the Wind River Mountains to the south, including the Wind River Canyon.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
 
 
  • Responsible for electrical duties, including replacing light bulbs and ballasts, repairing or replacing switches, controls, dialers, and other electrical components, troubleshooting and locating problems, maintaining/operating emergency generators, and recommending design parameters of new service.
  • Performs locksmith duties ranging in difficulty from ordinary office door locks to extremely sophisticated, electronically operated high-security magnetic locks.
  • Accomplishes the vast majority of troubleshooting, repair, remodeling, design, and construction of state facility maintenance.
  • Prepares bid specifications and determines the most cost-effective method of accomplishing repairs and projects.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of all vehicles, tractors, utility vehicles, heavy equipment, diesel generators, and other mechanical systems.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains heating systems, gas systems, refrigeration systems, boiler systems, and air handling units.
  • Assists with lawn care, landscaping, and snow removal.
  • Responsible for the water and sewer service (pump stations, sewer lift stations, automated fire sprinkler systems, irrigation systems, etc.) for state facilities.
  • Reviews engineering plans and specifications related to electrical distribution systems, mechanical utility systems, sewage treatment and disposal systems, construction, alteration, rehabilitation, and modernization to be in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Reads and interprets mechanical, topographical, and electrical schematic drawings and maintenance manuals used in maintaining and repairing electronic equipment.
  • Participates in the construction/energy management planning process and checks existing facilities/utilities and the scope of work for proposed projects.
  • Plans, tracks, schedules, and performs preventive maintenance for all ranges and courses including all electronic and mechanical targets systems and mechanical pneumatic equipment.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: 


Preference may be given to applicants with an Associate's degree, PLUS one year of HVAC, automotive, plumbing, grounds keeping, and/or Electrical experience as a skilled trades laborer.


KNOWLEDGE: 

 

  • Knowledge of HVAC, basic automotive, electrical, and plumbing diagnostics.
  • Ability to operate various heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of power woodworking, metalworking, and masonry equipment.
  • Knowledge of grades, kinds, and uses of various wood and wood products.
  • Knowledge of concrete masonry units and bricks, asphalt, and concrete repair.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations in relation to construction operations and vehicle and/or aircraft maintenance facilities.
  • Work/study towards specialized certificates may be assigned based on facility needs, i.e., pesticide applicator certification, etc.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 
Education:
Associate's Degree
 
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Skilled Trades) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Skilled Trades Assistant
 
OR
 
Education & Experience Substitution:
2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Skilled Trades) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Skilled Trades Assistant
 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
None

Necessary Special Requirements


PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

  • Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must complete the mandatory State of Wyoming and Wyoming Boys' School Training.
  • Must be willing/able to perform "on-call" duties for a week at a time, on a 5-week rotating schedule.
