The City of Valdez Parks and Recreation Department is hiring 2 Ski Hill Attendants for the 2025 season. 


Under direct supervision of a Recreation Coordinator or Ski Hill Supervisor, this position oversees participants, facility operations, organized group activities such as ski and snowboard lessons, or family activities and special events. This job requires additional on-the-job training and CPR/First Aid.

This is a temporary, non-benefited position working 20 hours or less per week from the end of January through March. This position may supervise or monitor any age of patrons at the ski hill. This position will work weekends, to include Fridays during Spring Break.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 16 years or older.
  • Obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR Certification within the first month of work.
  • Obtain and maintain additional job specific training and certifications outlined per activity, program, facility or event.


Physical requirement and work environment:

  • Work environment is outdoor and in inclement weather for the entire season. 
Positions are open until filled, review of applicants begins December 17, 2024.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide customer service to Ski Hill patrons.
  • May perform cleaning or general maintenance under the supervision of the Ski Hill Supervisor or Park Maintenance team.
  • Maintains order and discipline by enforcing rules, regulations and safety precautions and reports to supervisor.
  • Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and conditions, intervenes when necessary.
  • Acts as a team member maintaining a cooperative attitude with employees, supervisors and staff.
  • Performs specific duties outlined per activity or event.
  • Attends department and facility staff meetings. 
  • Maintains administrative records, to include, attendance, equipment, facility cleaning logs, ski hill opening and closing checklists and ski lift logs.
  • Maintains facility security.
  • Must render aid, call 911, and stabilize injuries until assistance arrives.
  • Enforces patron conduct protocols for immediate suspension or ejections for up to 24 hrs, as outlined in Rules of Conduct.
  • Other related duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Other Characteristics:

  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills with staff and patrons, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively with various age groups.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks.
  • Follow instructions-both verbal and written.
