Who are we hiring?
The Render Wrangler will be responsible for monitoring and optimizing all processes running on the render farm to ensure that established priorities are maintained and that deliverables meet production specifications and schedules. This role is responsible for monitoring the render farm’s functionality and efficiency, optimizing configurations, troubleshooting errors, assisting artists with submitting and managing their jobs, gathering metrics for documenting and reporting.
The candidate for this position should have production experience with Deadline Monitor. Working knowledge of various DCC’s such as Nuke, Maya, Houdini, Cinema4D, After Effects, and other common 2D and 3D applications is desired. Python scripting for submission, job management automations, and reporting are very advantageous.
What will you do?
- Prioritize the render queue and appropriately allocate resources to ensure that rendering schedules are met in consultation with Supervisors, Artists, and the Production Management team.
- Monitor rendering quality and speeds by examining jobs for optimizations, make corrections when needed, and troubleshoot any potential problems; consult Supervisors and Leads concerning approaches, issues, and solutions.
- Monitor render farm performance to ensure there are no technical or machine problems which might interfere with a successful output. Respond to errors by diagnosing, identifying, and resolving render errors.
- Actively engage in developing and refining the efficiencies of the rendering and data management pipelines through workflow structuring and scripting automations.
- Communicate with Production Management, Supervisors, and Studio on hardware and software procurement needs and other related issues.
- Actively monitor license usage to avoid render issues and to predict upcoming needs.
- Assure that renders do not encounter issues due to hardware or software incompatibilities.
What do you need to succeed?
- Experience with high-end post production/VFX processes and pipeline.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in post production with specific work experience in a render wrangler or TA capacity.
- Comprehensive understanding of AWS Deadline Monitor and experience with Shotgrid production tracking.
- Working knowledge of 2D & 3D content creation applications such as: Nuke, Maya, Houdini, Cinema4D, After Effects to assist with troubleshooting and optimizing.
- Scripting experience with Python or other languages like C++ is beneficial.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, act on feedback, and work under high pressure with tight deadlines while maintaining team cohesion.
Special Requirements:
- The Render Wrangler will report to the Render Farm Manager and will require a level of self-directed and solutions-oriented initiative with good sound decision making skills.
- This role requires a self-directed "production-minded" work ethic helping to maintain the high level of quality associated with the MSG Sphere.
- Candidates must be flexible to work swing shifts, over nights, and weekends.
