What you will do:
As a Park Ranger 1 at L.L. Stub Stewart, you will assist staff in the protection, maintenance, operation and repair of state park lands, natural and cultural resources, structures, facilities, equipment and systems.
In this role, you will perform a variety of park operational tasks such as: janitorial work, landscape maintenance, safety, interpretive, and visitor services. Some work may require the most elementary skills in: building trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting and landscape maintenance. Additionally, specialize skills in park maintenance and operations may be required. On a task specific basis, you may guide the work of individuals or teams composed of volunteers, seasonal, and/or temporary state park employees, which may also include adults and juveniles in custody.

Minimum Qualifications:
Two (2) years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
OR
An Associate's degree in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management or Environmental Studies AND 6 months of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
NOTE: A higher level degree may substitute for the Associate's degree. There is no substitute for the 6 months experience.
Special Requirements:
To be hired, you must have a criminal records and driving records check that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment.
You must have a valid driver’s license at the time of hire and throughout employment.

Skill in the safe use of tools, materials, and equipment associated with landscape, building, facility, trail and utility system maintenance.
Experience performing maintenance tasks to complete basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, and grounds keeping tasks. Including skill in custodial duties, cleaning of public restroom and shower facilities.
Experience planning and completing small to medium size maintenance projects.
Skill in resolving customer complaints related to overnight camping and park rule interpretation.
Proficient in providing customers with information about facility rules and also asking for customers to comply with those same facility or park related rules.
Skill in giving direction concerning work procedures to individuals or teams composed of volunteers in accomplishing different and varied tasks to achieve goals.
Demonstrated skill and experience in providing exceptional customer service, excellent interpersonal skills, communicating well with others and working in a team environment.
Experience using a computerized reservation system, collecting and reconciling fees and completing deposits.
Skill in maintaining composure and taking appropriate action during emergency or emotionally charged situations.

The salary listed is at the non-PERS rate. Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) eligible employees will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay the 6% employee contribution to PERS.
