Head Wrangler
YMCA Camp Ernst is looking for a Head Wrangler to assist the Ranch Director with the management & maintenance of the ranch program, as well as serve as a key member of the camp staff. The Head Wrangler will need to maintain a flexible schedule in order to meet the needs of the program, which may include evenings & weekends.

Responsibilities:
- Responsible for assisting with all general horse care.
- Must follow CHA & ACA standards to maintain high level of safety.
- Condition & exercise horses to prepare for upcoming programs.
- Teach ground & arena group lessons for beginner to advanced riders.
- Lead trail rides, as well as help in clearing & establishing new trails.
- During summer season: work with Barn Unit Leader to assist with scheduling; lead individual & private trail rides; adhere to a training/conditioning schedule for the horses; assist Unit Leader in all camp-related programs; ensure that every camper is given the opportunity to ride a horse.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years old with high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have proven experience in all aspects of horse care, including riding skills, general medical care, equipment and tack care & repair.
- Teaching experience preferred.
- Must complete & maintain current CPR & First Aid certifications.
- Must have ability to work with children & place the childrens' needs ahead of their own.
- Must be physically able to carry at least 50 lbs. (hay bales, grain bags), as well as saddles and other equipment. Must be able to mount a variety of horses from the ground.
- Must meet requirements to clear a motor vehicle check, and be able to pass specific trainings based on manufacturer's instructions (i.e. tractor).
- CHA Standard Riding Instructor Certification / Equine Facility Management (level 2 or higher, English & Western disciplines) preferred.
