Job Description:

Under administrative direction and oversight of the Regional Park Superintendent, the Park Superintendent III will administer, manage, provide staff for and supervise the grounds keeping, horticultural, facility maintenance, and related recreational activities for Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area/Bowring Ranch State Historical Park and satellite area Cottonwood State Recreation Area. This pivotal role involves administering park operations, preservation and protection of the parks and their
historical/cultural/natural resources, managing recreational programs, and handling essential administrative functions of these areas. Nebraska’s amazing wildlife, natural beauty, and outdoor recreation is waiting for you!
JOB DUTIES:
• Management of campground operations, facility maintenance, grounds keeping, historical, cultural and natural resource management, trail maintenance, maintaining boat/lake access sites, and oversee visitor activities/programs.
• Hire, train, and supervise seasonal workforce for assigned areas of responsibility.
• Development and administration of park area budgets, collecting data, maintaining records, preparing reports, fee collection, oversight of accounts payable and receivable functions.
• Master planning, infrastructure development and project/construction coordination.
• Lead and communicate with the community and general public in the efforts of park development and promotion.
• Other duties as required.

Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in park/recreation management or a related field; (wildlife, fisheries, natural resources sciences, public administration, history, cultural resource preservation or interpretation, travel and tourism, and planning) AND at least three years related experience including two years in a supervisory capacity. Related coursework/training and/or experience in park/recreation management or related field may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge and interest in park management, principles and techniques of supervision, Nebraska wildlife, natural resources, and outdoor recreation.
- Ability to work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials that may exceed 50 lbs.
- The operation, maintenance, and repair of park buildings, facilities, and equipment.
- Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner
- Learn and apply agency rules and regulations.
- Clearly present and communicate information to varied audiences.
- Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
- Work and make decisions independently and as a team.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, administrative personnel, and the public.
