Job Description:

Mahoney State Park is seeking a dynamic and collaborative individual to fill the role of the Superintendent II position. Located between Nebraska’s two largest cities, Eugene T. Mahoney State Park is a year-round destination that provides an array of recreational opportunities for park enthusiasts to enjoy from camping, cabins, the Peter Kiewit Lodge, restaurant, group rental facility, an aquatic center, activity center, marina, theater, horse trail rides, naturalist programs, and much more! This unique opportunity involves leading a large team that supports the activities in the park.

JOB DUTIES:
• Administer, manage, and provide staff for Owen’s Marina, Indoor Activity Center, Kountze Theatre, Family Aquatic Center, and Mini-golf Course.
• Hire, train, and supervise seasonal staff in multiple activity areas including concession attendants, lifeguards, and customer service members.
• Ordering for the concession service areas of E.T. Mahoney State Park.
• Maintenance, operation, and ordering of tools, materials, and equipment.
• Seasonal startup and shutdown of multiple activity areas in the park.
• Lead and communicate with the community and public in the efforts of park development and promotion.
• Assist with and lead special events and nature education.
• Collect data, maintain records, prepare reports, collect fees, ensure staff/visitor safety.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements/ Qualification

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in park/recreation management or a related field; (wildlife, fisheries, natural resources sciences, public administration, history, cultural resource preservation or interpretation, travel and tourism, and planning) AND two years related experience including one year in a supervisory or lead worker capacity. Related coursework/training and/or experience in park/recreation management or related field may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis. Valid driver's license.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge and interest in park management, principles and techniques of supervision, Nebraska wildlife, natural resources, and outdoor recreation.
  • Familiarity with Red Cross Lifeguard/ First Aid training or other applicable program.
  • Clearly present and communicate information to varied audiences and team members.
  • Work and make decisions independently and as a team.
  • Multitasking and organizational skills in multiple areas.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and administrative personnel.
  • Drive and transport materials to different areas of the park and the surrounding venture park areas.
  • Bend, stoop, climb, reach frequently; work outdoors; remain standing and/or walking for long periods of time.
