Job Description:

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Under the direction of the Wildlife Research Supervisor, the Data and Biometry Program Manager provides analytical and data management support to Wildlife Research Section program areas and the Wildlife Division. The Program Manager focuses on human dimensions of wildlife management (HD) as well as ecological research and monitoring. The Program Manager makes wildlife data resources (e.g., databases, spreadsheets, protocol documentation, summary information and reports) within the division accessible, useable, and secureβ€”now and for the future. Tasks include HD survey design, coordination, and implementation; data compilation/entry; database design and maintenance; and research design, analysis, and summarization.


Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Post high school coursework/training with major coursework in fish or wildlife management or a closely related field of biological science plus four years experience in fish or wildlife resource management; or master's degree plus two years experience; or Ph.D. plus one year of experience. At least two years of the experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Advanced understanding of the principles, concepts, and practices of wildlife ecology and management. Knowledge of traditional and emerging statistical applications relevant to wildlife ecology. Expertise in the design and collection of wildlife monitoring data and research projects. Experience developing new data analysis approaches or tools to solve wildlife problems. Experience with human dimensions relevant research. Experience working with quantitative and qualitative mixed mode survey data collection. Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences. Advanced technical writing skills. Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work with stakeholders, despite disagreements or differing perspectives. Capacity to solve problems both independently and as part of a team. Ability to analyze information and make appropriate decisions. Capacity to make and defend recommendations despite imperfect data. Data management and workflow development. Advanced familiarity with primary data analysis and management software (e.g., Program R, SAS, Microsoft Access and Excel) and data input software (e.g., ArcGIS Survey123, Snap Surveys). Ability to design disease wildlife studies, acquire external funding, coordinate implementation with contractors, and disseminate results in professional and public forums. A working knowledge of current wildlife issues and broad management philosophies such as the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation. Ability to prioritize work schedules, communicate effectively, set goals and objectives, develop and maintain professional relationships with universities, government agencies, conservation organizations and the public.
