Job Description:

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is looking for a passionate, collaborative, and detailed-oriented individual to join the Engineering team focusing on design. This permanent fulltime position will be designing, planning, and coordinating construction projects with the engineering team to ensure compliance with contracts and approved plans and specifications.
JOB DUTIES:

• Develops plans and specifications for projects completed without the assistance of consulting architect/engineers particularly for accessibility, electrical projects, roof replacement projects, facility upgrades and for general civil engineering projects.
• Prepares drawings and documentation for project development using computer assisted drafting (AutoCAD) technology. Utilizes various software such as MS word, MS excel, MS power point and GIS to create required
documents and correspondence.
• Reviews construction plans and specifications/blueprints for construction projects and determines scope of work, making field measurements and preparing cost estimates. Estimates labor, time, and materials for projects.
• Conducts pre-construction meetings. Coordinates project scheduling among surveyors, engineering or architectural consultants, contractors, agency personnel, and the State Fire Marshal.
• Confers with inhouse engineers, consultants, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to discuss and resolve issues such as work procedures, complaints, and/or construction problems.
• Issues, monitors, and recommends project change orders.
• Performs construction observation, conducts onsite inspections, performs limited testing during construction, and resolves technical problems. Prepares daily project reports and collects as-built information.
• Reviews and approves invoices/recommendation for payment verifying work done is appropriate to fee claimed.
• Approves final punch list and completion of construction or capital improvement projects.
• Maintains adequate records to sufficiently describe the work performed and to distribute such documentation as applicable.
• Travel will be required.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction plus eight years work experience in construction or construction inspection. Extensive work experience in construction business may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to those candidates with experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Construction design practices, AutoCAD, terminology, techniques, project management, estimating, procurement, change orders, and city, state and federal construction codes and regulations.
  • Supervise the work of others; communicate verbally and in writing; coordinate projects with others; gain cooperation, read, and interpret contracts and working drawings and specifications, apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Demonstrate a positive attitude with focus on customer support, maintain good interpersonal relationships, while delivering the highest quality of service. Ability to adapt to change and a varying schedule.

  • Interpret and apply, design plans, specifications, and technical instructions for construction, installation, maintenance, and repair; maintain technical documentation including as-built plans/diagrams, and operational/repair manuals; design and develop specifications; interact and communicate with others to share information, resolve competing demands and problems, and make decisions; work on separate assignments concurrently and independently.
