BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is administrative work of a managerial nature in assisting the regional manager in overseeing the operations, maintenance, repair, and capital improvement activities in state parks and historic sites in the southern region of the State.  In this role, you will assist with the oversight and management of ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) projects and FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) repair initiatives. Your responsibilities will include coordinating project activities, ensuring compliance with federal and state guidelines, tracking project progress, and preparing necessary documentation and reports. Additionally, you will collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders to facilitate the successful execution and completion of these projects.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Providing direction and guidance to park managers in the areas of policy, personnel, budgeting, maintenance, contract administration, and purchasing.
  • Developing plans for staff, equipment, and operating needs for new and/or expanded parks and programs in order to provide for changes in public demands on programs and operations.
  • Contribute to the development of Bureau policies and assure consistent application of State and departmental policies region wide.

Areas administered by this program include campgrounds, day use parks, historic sites, portions of the Appalachian Trail, state-owned parks that are administered by lease, numerous boat launching areas, and other lands hosting a wide variety of passive and active recreational activities. Work is performed under limited supervision and requires traveling across the southern region of the state.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Public or Business Administration, or related field and four (4) years in park administration.  Equivalent work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

 

Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge and qualifications in the following areas: 

 

  • In-depth knowledge of the infrastructure and facilities at Maine State Parks and Historic Sites in the southern region.
  • Familiarity with the procedures for contract administration with the State of Maine. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of trades and construction, including techniques, materials, and safety protocols.
  • Experience overseeing construction projects from planning to completion, ensuring quality and adherence to timelines. 
  • Experience managing state and federal-funded projects and understanding federal and state compliance requirements. 
  • Strong organizational and communication skills to coordinate with park managers, contractors, maintenance coordinators, engineers, and other consultants.
