The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF) has a current vacancy for a Forest Fire Prevention Specialist.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is investigative and protective services work in developing, implementing, and coordinating a statewide forest fire prevention plan and various forest fire prevention educational programs and presentations.
Responsibilities include developing and coordinating grant-related programs and performing law enforcement and fire suppression activities. This position would coordinate the Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG) program. This would include the education of communities, fire departments, and local governments at the county and township level regarding wildfire risk reduction. This position would assist Forest Protection staff and community grant applicants in implementing CWDG application processes and field projects. This position would also oversee grant awards in the State of Maine and the appropriate documentation to ensure grant specifications are met. This position will work cooperatively with community and fire department leaders and other federal and state agencies within the Forest Protection Division. This position will also be the Division's liaison with the US Forest Service CWDG coordinator for full grant accountability. Work is performed under limited supervision.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry, a related life or natural resource science, Education, Communications, or other closely related area and demonstrated experience in forest fire control and enforcement of forest fire control laws. Directly related experience in forestry, conservation, and/or a natural resources related field may be substituted for education.
