The Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry, Maine Forest Service, has a Regional Forest Ranger vacancy open for promotional opportunity. The position is located in the Northern Region in Ashland.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is investigative and protective services work of a managerial nature in directing wildfire protection, forest practices regulation, and criminal and civil law enforcement programs for a large geographic region of Maine.
Responsibilities include planning, organizing, and directing all program facets including administration of financial and human resources. Supervision is exercised over all regional personnel. Regional Forest Rangers perform policy, supervision and management over a regional workforce that is investigative and protective services work. This work includes the detection, prevention, readiness, response capacity and suppression of wildfires, and the enforcement of forestry, environmental and conservation laws.
Work also includes oversight of District Forest Rangers and Forest Rangers who prepare and update fire action plans, train firefighters, and supervise firefighting operations.
Regional Forest Rangers also provide staff and management support for statewide response to emergency incidents and provide vital support to state, county and local agencies. Work is performed under administrative direction.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or a directly related natural resources field and three (3) years of supervisory experience in wildfire control. Directly related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
