The Bureau of Parks and Lands (BPL) is recruiting to fill a full-time position for an Agency GIS/Technology Coordinator located in Augusta, Bangor or other agreed on location in Maine.


 


BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is advanced work in coordinating BPL Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and technology. This position will be responsible for leading the development of technology, application support and GIS tools. A commitment to craftsmanship is expected. The position requires a high level of organization and attention to detail in maintaining knowledge of tools for ESRI and Microsoft and designing or assisting in the design for maximum utilization within programs. In addition, the position uses other GIS and graphics software to combine figures, diagrams, and images with text for map and report publications. It will also assist with natural resource geospatial analysis and database application management and development. Work is performed under general supervision and in collaboration with other technology and program staff.


The successful candidate will need strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, enjoy being part of a team, learning, using researching tools, and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate would also have an undergraduate degree in a natural science and/or at least three (3) years of relevant GIS or technology work experience.


This position may be able to work a hybrid (remote/office) schedule based on operational needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A six (6) year combination of education, training, and/or experience directly related to the operation, development, and maintenance of GIS systems, database management and project coordination. A Bachelor’s Degree with coursework in information technology/GIS is preferred.


Preference will be given to candidates with experience using ArcGIS to display complex natural resource data features, and a strong knowledge of cartography and map design. Work experience and/or education in GIS development using Python and database design using Esri’s ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, file geodatabases, and enterprise geodatabases (SQL Server) is highly desired. BPL is transitioning to a mobile, spatially enabled workforce so experience with ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise Portal, Field Maps, Survey123, and ArcGIS Hub is preferred.  Additionally, BPL makes broad use of the Microsoft Office applications – Power Apps, Power Automate, Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint – so experience with these tools is desired. Any experience with GIS software and/or database support, ad hoc querying using SQL, spatial data presentation using Esri’s Dashboards or Experience Builder applications is also a plus.
