Academy Chef

Mission Alignment: Jackson Hole Classical Academy operates in the historic Christian tradition. All
faculty, staff, and board members annually reaffirm their commitment to the Nicene Creed. During the
initial screening process, applicants are asked to affirm their agreement with the Nicene Creed, before
continuing in the application process.

Position Description: The Academy Chef reports to the Head of School and serves as an essential team
member in the Office of Campus Operations under the supervision of the Director of Campus Operations.
The Academy Chef is responsible for designing, delivering, and promoting a healthy food culture at the
academy, in accordance with the ideals of excellence in classical, Christian education. The Academy Chef
designs and implements the campus food and nutrition program, runs academy food service, and
supports academy and public events.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Food and Nutrition Programming

• Provides leadership and strategic direction of the school’s food and nutrition program, including
design of the school’s food and nutrition master plan; working with the Head of School and
Director of Campus Operations, ensures cultural alignment between the school’s food education
and wellness programs and its classical, Christian mission.
• Designs and delivers educational programming in nutrition and cooking in the school’s practical
arts program.
• Designs and delivers educational programming in nutrition and cooking for students, families,
and staff in the school’s extracurricular program.
• Integrates the school greenhouse into food service and food educational programming.
 
Academy Food Service

• Oversees kitchen support staff and drives a culture of continual improvement in the team
through a goal-oriented framework. Coordinates team meetings to ensure consistency in
application of best practices.
• Prepares and serves nutritious and appetizing daily meals to students and staff in a safe, clean,
and efficient manner, in compliance with federal and state school nutrition guidelines applicable
to private schools.
• Prepares and manages kitchen operating budget and operates within budget.
• Monitors and maintains inventory and orders supplies, food, and ingredients to sustain the
school’s food and nutrition program and to minimize food waste.
• Develops menus that consider dietary restrictions and allergies.
• Maintains compliance with health and safety standards for proper food storage, handling, and
preparation, as well as sanitization, cleanliness, and organization of kitchen and dining areas.
• Engages stakeholders (parents, students, faculty, and staff) to gather feedback to improve menu
and food service.

Event Support

• Trains and oversees event volunteers and delegates tasks effectively to ensure high standards of
food preparation and service during events.
• Prepares food to support academy and public events.
• Performs other duties and projects as assigned by Head of School or Director of Campus
Operations.
 
Prerequisite Skills and Expertise

• Highest standards of integrity, sound judgment, confidentiality, and reliability.
• Strong interpersonal, relational, communication, and management skills.
• Proficiency with software applications, including MS Office suite (Word, Excel) and other relevant systems.
• Knowledge of nutrition and dietary requirements for children and adolescents.
• Proficiency with federal and state school nutrition guidelines applicable to private schools.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Education and Professional Experience

• Extensive and diversified background in food service or hospitality (school or institutional food
service experience is a plus) with at least three years of related experience.
• Culinary arts bachelor’s or master’s degree preferred.
• Current Food Handler’s Card and Food Manager Certification accredited by the ANSI-National
Accreditation Board (ANAB) and accepted in the State of Wyoming.
• American Culinary Federation Certified Executive Chef (CEC) preferred. 

Compensation
• Salary is commensurate with experience.
• Full-time benefits, including healthcare, housing allowance, and IRA matching, are available.

Working Conditions and Expectations
• Work schedule typically aligns with the school calendar, including early mornings and occasional
events outside school hours. When catering school events, the Academy Chef is expected to
work after school day hours and flexible / requested hours as needed.
• Physical demands include standing for extended periods, lifting heavy items, and working in a
fast-paced kitchen environment.
